Biography

Ioannis Antoniadis was born in Thessalonica, in 1964. He arrived to London 2 years after his Army Service as an officer, in May 1990. There he complimented his visionary quest in painting with other studies, the Mystical teachings of the East and Esoteric Christianity & Orthodox tradition the philosophy of ancient Greece and the ceremonial Life of Egypt. He reached a turning point while working on a number of particular symbols.

Antoniadis says “…As I was working on a series of pictures based on ancient archetypal ideals, I became aware of a new presence in me. A presence full of Dynamic Potential. I call it ...The Vertical Light! Since then my work became a continual conversation with the abstract mind. As I look deeper into a frame of pure activity a blank canvas or a coloured piece of paper I feel like I am looking into a luminous world. The more I look the more I feel that a transformation taking place. My mind becomes like a prism translating light to millions of possibilities, colours, ideas, feelings, and forms.”

This intuitive awareness has enabled him to paint the essence of ideas and concepts in an unprecedented depth. This spontaneous creative activity enabled him to bypass the interference of the thoughts and the likes/dislikes of the emotional nature penetrating deeply in an unknown territory and as he said “…I came in touch with a Mysterious World.”

”… These visions are not the product of fancy but instead that of a spontaneous and dynamic communication with a Life …Within. As I work in these paintings it is revealed to me a world of inner beauty, wisdom and truth. This has been his way to understand better nature’s fine Laws, demystify superstition and actively participate in Life’s Mysteries.” Ioannis has a passion for the inspiring factor in the art... His work evokes ideas, moods and emotions through the harmony of imagery, colour and space. Within the intimacy of his work, there is an attempt to establish a connection between the Viewer, the Creative Spirit and the Mystery of Art.

He has exhibited widely in Greece and UK and his paintings, prints and drawings can be found in private and public collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
